136. Notes on Stewardship

These are notes From April 26, 2015 from a Stewardship class offered at our church. I thought this was great material and figured I'd share! Comments in the { } are my thoughts.

Our church operates under the Biblical truth that everything was created by God and therefore belongs to God. Stewardship is the managing of resources… At SRC we are simply managers of God’s resources.

1. God owns everything

a. The World. – Exodus 19:5, Psalm 24:1-2

b. God owns us. – Deut. 32:6, Ez. 18:4, Rom 14:8, 1 Chron. 29:14

c. Everything we possess. -  Psalm 50:10, Haggai 2:8, Deut. 8:18

d. We are accountable for our stewardship. – Luke 19:11-27, Rom 14:12, 1 Peter 4:5

{We’re to engage in God’s business until our master returns!}

2. Examples of Stewards

a. The faithful steward – Luke 12:35-38

b. The unfaithful steward – Luke 16:1-8

3. Giving {generously & sacrificially} {Note: This one was giving the tithe originally}

a. Old Testament teaching was the tithe – Lev. 27:30-32, 2 Chron. 3:15; Mal. 3:8-10

b. New Testament teaching – generosity, maturity, & joy are factors in giving.

4. Giving – the heart factor. – 2 Cor. 9:7, Luke 12:34

5. Attitudes in giving

a. Without pretense – Matt. 23:23, Matt. 6:1-2

b. Self-sacrifice – living on less enables us to give more. – Matt. 19:21, Heb. 13:16

c. Give cheerfully – 2 Cor. 9:7

6. Results of Christian giving. 2 Cor. 9:11-13

a. Helping people in need. - Gal 2:10, Heb. 13:16, Gal 6:10

b. Helping Christians in need. – Rom 15:26, 1 Cor. 16:1-2

c. Supporting full-time ministers – 1 Cor. 9:13-14, 1 Tim. 5:17-18

d. Supporting missionaries – Phil. 4:15-16

7. Wisdom with finances

a. Dedicate everything you possess to God.

b. Use wisdom in your spending.

c. Remain debt free as much as possible. – Rom. 13:8

8. Keys to financial success

a. Remember God owns it all

b. Set long term goals – Prov. 16:9

c. Establish a reserve – Prov. 6:6-8

d. Avoid the use of debt – Prov. 22:7

e. Spend less than you make or earn. – Prov. 13:11
{f. Give generously and sacrificially!}

Stewardship goal: Honor God! To grow closer to the Lord make a difference for His Kingdom through a lifestyle of generous giving. Let’s do it!
